Free Card Making Project Idea

Flower Butterfly Card

A beautiful butterfly that is actually made out of flowers makes the centre-piece of this card. The instructions show you how to make a birthday card, but by changing the wording you can use this card for all kinds of occasions.

Materials and Tools

  • Flowerfly Rubber Stamp
  • Decorating Chalks
  • White Card and Pansy Bazzil Basics card
  • Ultra Fine Silver Glitter
  • Sakura Glaze Pens
  • Sakura Quickie Glue Pen
  • Mini Mounting pads and Glue Tape

Instructions

This card is a lot of fun to make. For the first step we will make the colourful flower butterfly. Stamp the butterfly (or flowerfly as it's really called) onto a sheet of plain white card using black stazon ink. Colour in the flowers at the tips of the wings using sakura glaze pens.

Now we can add a little glitter to the flower stems that make up the butterfly wings and antennae. Draw along some of the stems with a glue pen and then cover with silver ultra fine glitter. Shake of the excess glitter and return it to the pot, ready for next time. The only thing left to do is to cut out the butterfly shape. I have left a small gap around the edge of the butterfly to smooth out all the corners. This makes it much easier to cut out as well.

The next job is to make the cut away card. To do this I took a piece of white Bazzill Basics card and cut it down to A5 size. After the A5 sheet was scored on a card folding board it was folded in half to make a standard size greeting card. If you don't want to make your own card, any white A6 card blank will do.

With a pair of scissors, cut about 3cm (1 1/2") along the fold line from the top of the card. Finally cut the top part of the card off at an angle so you get a finished card like the one below.

Using chalks, colour in the inside of the card with blue and the front of the card with green.

Before we stick everything together we need to make a topper with "Happy Birthday" in it. You can change this message to anything you like, as this card is ideal for lots of occasions, including Get Well Soon, Thank You, Best Wishes and Happy Mother's Day. Stamp or write your message onto a piece of white card and trim to size. Glue this to another layer of coloured card (I used Bazzill Basics Pansy). As a finishing touch I also added glitter to the edges by drawing along the edge with the Sakura glue pen and sprinkling a little glitter onto it.

Finally, glue the butterfly to the card so part of it sticks out over the edge of the cut off you made earlier. Attach the wording topper to the card using mini mounting pads and admire your work...
