Free Card Making Project Idea

Tall Daisy Stencil Card

This birthday card is great fun to make. It uses one of our range of stencils for the design on the front and can easily be adapted to other occasions by changing the wording down the side.

Materials and Tools

  • Bazzill Basics Typhoon Card
  • Tall Daisies Stencil
  • Colorbox Queue Pigment Ink, Rainbow Sherbert
  • Finger Daubers
  • EZ Chalk Applicators
  • Baby Girl Designer Collection, Flowers Background Paper
  • Silver Alphabet Peel Off Sticker

Instructions

1. The first step is to cut the piece of blue card to size. This card is A6, so your blue card needs to measure approximately 15x21cm. Once you have cut it to size, fold it in half, with the textured finish on the outside.

2. We now need to stencil our daisies onto the front of the card. Using low tack tape, tape your stencil to the left hand edge of the card, so that it doesn’t move, with the shorter daisy leaning to the right. Put a little ink onto a finger dauber and gently dab onto the stencil, so that you get a white image. It is much better here to do a little ink at a time and layer it up, so that the ink does not seep out beneath the stencil. You need the whole image to be done in white, and then we add the colours later. When you have covered the entire image, leave it to dry but do not remove the tape. Once dry, use a chalk applicator to apply yellow ink to the centre of the daisies and a different chalk applicator to apply green ink to the stems and leaves. Leave to dry, and then carefully remove the stencil.

Wash the stencil by running it under a warm tap and dry thoroughly. Turn the stencil over and using the low tack tape, tape it to the card a little lower than before, so that the tall daisy is close to the other two. Use the inks to colour in just the tall daisy. Where the smaller daisy crosses over the stem of the tall one, there is a gap which you don’t want, but you can move the stencil, so you get a section of solid stem to ink over.

Tip: It is quite difficult to avoid inking over the smaller daisy here, so you can use some low tack tape to mask the shorter daisy, so that you don’t accidentally put ink where you don’t want it!

3. We now need to create the curved edge of the card. To do this, use a pair of scissors and follow the line of the right hand daisy, trying to cut a smooth line. Using the white ink pad, dab the ink pad against the curved edge of the card. Don’t worry if it smudges slightly, as this looks very effective!

4. The next step is to give the card it's pink flowery inside. Cut a piece of the pink background paper to fit inside your card blank. One way of ensuring that you cut out a piece to the correct size is to lay the card down on the background paper (on a cutting mat) and cut around it, using a craft knife and a steel edged or metal ruler. Stick the piece of paper onto back of the inside of the card.

5. The last step is to write "Happy Birthday" (or any message of your choice) down the left hand side of the card, using the silver alphabet peel off stickers. You can try to follow the curve of your card, or alternatively you could stick them in a straight line.

Your card is finished!
