Clay, Dough & Modelling

Clay, Dough & Modelling

Getting our kids involved in Arts and Crafts activities is a great way to keep them entertained during those rainy days when going to the park is really not an option.

Research has proven that imagination and creativity enhance a child's intellectual development. There is, for example, mathematics in threading beads on a string in a pattern by shape, colour and length.

There is something very therapeutic about playing with clay as an adult. Why not let your little ones have a go? The tactile nature of clay lets young children develop their imaginations and their motor skills while having fun. At Handy Hippo, we bring you a wide range of clays to choose from.

The Foam Clay is particularly popular. This modelling clay is made up of colourful, non-drying micro beads for constructing shapes or for covering all sorts of items and surfaces. It is safe to use for adults and children. Simply, roll small balls of Foam Clay then, press them on to the object and spread the mixture with your fingers. Foam clay can also be rolled out on a plastic pocket and dried, after which it may be punched out or cut out with scissors or any of our Shape Cutters and Wheels from Anthony Peters (sold separately).

We also feature the range of Silk Clay, a self-hardening, mixable, flexible and soft modelling material with a soft rubber-like textures. Add a bit of water to the clay if it becomes too dry and knead thoroughly to regain elasticity. Drying times vary from 2-24 hours depending on model size and thickness.

As with all modelling mediums, we recommend you be certain the lid is complete sealed, or store in any airtight plastic container to prevent drying out.

When shopping this Clay, Dough & Modelling category, we feature with each product project ideas your child can create.
