Embossing Powders

Embossing Powders

Oh, the magic of Embossing Powders! This fast melting, fine powder that you sprinkle over a stamped image, then wondrously creates a brilliant raised impression when heated.

Creating embossed images on your craft projects adds fantastic dimensional elements to your designs. Probably the most popular stamping technique, embossing may look difficult, but it's not. Rendering the best results simply requires a Heat Gun and a good quality embossing powder.

At Handy Hippo, we offer different popular brands of Embossing Powders. Each range is uniquely different from the other in terms of product composition and the final look achieved. Featuring our bestselling powders from WOW!, these are excellent quality and perfect for everyday embossing projects. For adding the ultimate shimmer to your raised impression, Lindy's Stamp Gang Embossing Powders and Sprays outshine all the others in the marketplace.

We also feature the range of Ultra Thick Embossing Crystals from Cosmic Shimmer. These products are great to use for embossing with a touch of iridescence or creating imprinted images. Simply, use an ink pad to cover an area of cardstock with ink. Next, scatter a layer of the embossing crystals over area and heat with heating tool. While the melted crystals are still hot, press desired rubber stamp into the molten surface until cooled for best impression.

For your convenience, we offer the following helpful tips to achieve the best results when using Embossing Powder:

  • When applying ink to the stamp, place stamp on its back with the image up, then dab with the ink pad to get an even coat of ink.
  • To get the best stamped impression on your cardstock, be sure to press down firmly and avoid rocking the stamp. This will eliminate a smudged image.
  • Always use a generous amount of the embossing powder to be certain to cover all the fine lines and details of your stamp. No need to worry about waste. Once your stamp image is covered with embossing powders, lift your card and turn on its side to allow the excess powder to collect in a tray or paper on your work surface. The excess can then be returned to the jar to use again. Amazingly, a little goes a long way.
  • If you notice some of the embossing powder has scattered outside of the stamp image, use a fine brush to remove before apply heat.
  • When applying the heat gun to your wet embossed image, considering using tweezers to hold your card to keep the heat away from your fingers.
  • If you prefer a nice thick impression, add a thick layer of embossing powder to your stamp image and heat from the underside of the card. This will eliminate any embossing powder getting blown away by heating the topside, closest to the powder.
